The VW Crafter stands out as a top choice for leisure conversions due to its exceptional versatility, spacious design, and proven reliability, making it an ideal foundation for campervans and recreational vehicles. Building on Volkswagen’s iconic campervan heritage, including the classic Transporter, the Crafter carries a trusted reputation and evokes a sense of adventure that appeals to many.
Introduced in 2016 and available in the UK from 2017, the second-generation Crafter has become a popular light commercial vehicle (LCV), perfectly suited for larger campervan conversions and outdoor enthusiasts seeking space for sporting activities. Its counterpart, the MAN TGE, shares the same design, ensuring compatibility with our custom roof solutions. Our newly released elevating roof is an excellent addition, offering extra sleeping space and enhancing the Crafter’s functionality for leisure use.
Please note that we don’t offer our regular bed options for our Crafter roof, this is because the vehicle’s roof is used for the bed platform, therefore, a mattress is all that’s required when ordering.
Austops’ elevating pop-top roofs is available for the MWB (L2) with Standard roof height (H2) variant only.
As an additional way to enhance the living space in your VW Crafter, we have launched a pair of rear panel side-pods (flairs). The pods are made from 4mm black gloss acrylic ABS material with UV protection. When installed, the pods provide an extra 195mm (maximum) of space allowing for a bed to be installed across the vehicle. For full details please visit our UK distribution partner UK Leisure Parts.

Gelcoat & Colour Matching:
At Austops, we aim to give you the best choice of colours for your elevating pop top roof. We use only the finest superior grade gelcoats and polyester pastes from the UK’s leading manufacturers of gelcoats ensuring that our products will look their very best for years to come with a little care and attention. As standard, Austops’s roofs are supplied free of charge with a high gloss gelcoat in either White or Black finish. If you opt for White, the roof will be supplied in the same paint as the vehicle manufacturer e.g. Ford Frozen White, or Renault Glacier White.
Individual Colour Matching (Solid colours only):
If you want your roof to be the same colour as the vehicle, simply provide us with the name of the colour and the vehicle manufacturers paint code and we will do the rest. Examples of this are VW Pure Grey, paint code: LH7J and Renault Urban Grey, paint code: KPW/RKPW. In addition to the vehicle manufacturers colours, we can make a roof in any colour from the RAL colour chart (https://www.ralcolorchart.com/), you simply need to provide us with the RAL code and name and we will do the rest. There is a small fee for this colour matching service.
Anthracite gelcoat primer:
If you are planning to paint your roof, we can supply our roofs in a gelcoat primer which has been specially formulated for the paint shop. A light sanding is all that’s required before applying the topcoat and lacquer. There is a small fee for this service.
Metallic Paint colours:
Unfortunately, due to technical reasons, we are unable to manufacture roofs in metallic colours. If you plan to respray to a metallic colour, please consider our Anthracite gelcoat primer option.

All sales and fitting services are provided by our network of authorised installers. Our network of authorised installers spans across the UK, Ireland and Europe and is continuing to grow!

TÜV Tested
Our VW Transporter T5, T5.1, T6 and T6.1 roofs are fully TÜV Rheinland tested and approved. This testing which is completed at the TÜV Rheinland testing facilities in Cologne, Germany ensures that the roof fitment process does not alter the vehicle in a way that would make the vehicle unsafe.
5 Year Warranty
At Austops, we pride ourselves on the quality of our products and of our customer service. Our pop-top roofs all come with 5 years limited warranty which covers both parts and labour. At Austops, we will always do our very best to ensure that you are delighted with our products throughout the life of the product and your ownership. Whatever the query, you should always contact the installer or retailer in the first instance but be assured that Austops will always be available to help.

TÜV tested
Our T5, T5.1, T6 and T6.1 roofs are fully TÜV Rheinland tested, this testing is done at the TÜV Rheinland testing facility in Cologne and ensures that the roof fitment process does not alter the vehicle in a way that would make it unsafe. This is the only test available that is specifically designed to test the impact of elevating roof fitment on the vehicle, products tested in this manner will always show the TÜV Rheinland kite mark on any certification.
